interested in the Mysteries, and Great Truths.

It provides a wonderful base from which to
explore the Infinite, and to discover our
spiritual selves.”

Introduction

First of all, I think it would be a good idea to explain how this book came to be written.

Fifteen years ago a friend of mine asked me to help in raising money for a charity. Not being a sporty type to be sponsored for some athlete feat and not keen on serving endless cups of coffee at coffee mornings, I wondered what on earth could be done to help.

After much thought, the only thing which came to mind, was the fact that having spent years in collecting information on many subjects of interest purely for my own pleasure, maybe I was capable of giving talks.  My friend liked the idea and opened up her house for this activity and a considerable amount of money was raised.

I had learnt the art of public speaking by helping my husband when his firm sent him on a course for such an activity. So there I was, with a chance to practice all that had been learnt. It was all tremendously successful and everyone enjoyed my efforts and they were  pleased to have the opportunity to hear about many things of which previously they had been unaware.

When all these activities came to an end, I thought what a pity more people did not know all the amazing facts, which I had discovered over the years about subjects that are quite mysterious to us all, perhaps I should have a go at writing a book.

To give you some idea of what the book is all about, below is a précis of each chapter.

Of necessity the book is in part autobiographical, particularly the Prologue.

Prologue

My childhood was really quite unusual, only a few people will have experienced, as I did, the up-stairs downstairs life of living in one of the Lodges on a large private estate in the depths of the countryside during the1930’s. All my relatives on both sides of the family worked in various capacities on the estate.

From this idyllic life in the country, as a result of my father losing his job when the estate was sold in 1937, we were catapulted up to the industrial North of England in the middle of the depression of the 1930’s.  One very soon came to realize how the other half lived. I count myself extremely fortunate that I have had the experience of both worlds.

Just to give you some idea of the poverty at the time, many years later when my boys were young and refusing to eat their food, my husband said, “ Get it eaten, when I was your age I was lucky to get half an egg” This of course gave them much enjoyment at making fun of this disclosure and they used to say “ You only used to get half an egg didn’t you Dad?”

As a result of my long life, there are some interesting nuggets of social history and with a few laughs on the way, as you will see it has been quite a journey of discovery.

Astrology

You will no doubt be interested to hear about how I became an astrologer thirty years ago. There was an extraordinary happening in my life for which I needed an explanation – I found the answer in the study of astrology and being able to understand my birth-chart.

It is no easy task to become an astrologer even today but at the time there were no computers on which to press a button for the calculations of each chart undertaken for studies. Astronomical calculations had to be done by hand, exactly like astronomers had to do to find the position of the stars. So as you can see it took some determination to succeed.

It is my aim in the book to try to explain as simply as possible, the remarkable truths of this sacred science. It is far removed from the popular view of astrology and I hope it will give you an understanding of what our lives are about

Astrology, like science is a subject which continually brings to light new discoveries. Even qualified astrologers who have studied the subject for many years never cease to learn the most amazing facts.

My most recent discovery is astro- carto- graphy (although it has been current for thirty years!)  It is briefly described in an appendix.

The fact that there are destiny points around the world at the moment of birth on a world- wide scale which can influences ones life, as I have found out in my own chart, is absolutely mind-blowing.

I stand in awe.

Coincidences

There have been the most amazing coincidences, which have happened to a few people who have met up with long lost relatives in extraordinary places and circumstances around the world. This includes first hand experience of such an extraordinary meeting

of members in my own family. However, as an astrologer I prefer to think of these happenings in terms of synchronicity rather than coincidence.

Palmistry

Many a hopeful client has entered a palmist’s tent at the seaside in the hope of being told that at some point they will fall in love or come into a fortune. Others of course think the whole idea that the lines on our hands can foretell the future is absolute rubbish.

However, it is a medical fact that the lines on our hands are established by the time a foetus is four or five months old and no pair of hands are the same, not even twins.

Equally, in astrology no birth chart is the same, the planets at the time of birth and the movements thereafter have been found to correlate with major happenings in a life. The lines on the hands follow the same timetable of events.

Both astrology and palmistry have a very long history dating back to the Greek philosophers; sadly, due to religious and scientific opposition during and since the Middle Ages, which unfortunately continues today, so much knowledge has been kept from us.

I have great fun looking at people’s hands generally and I get a lot of pointers as to what sort of person the owner is likely to be in life.

Perhaps you might like to join in the fun – I once saw a potential murderer on a bus!

Ghosts

Some people believe that there are ghosts, others refute that there are such apparitions.

There was great fun to be had in collecting personal ghost stories from my friends. One only had to mention writing about ghosts and often the reply was, “ Well, I have never told anyone before but –  ” I hope that you have as much fun reading about them as I had writing about the results of my conversations.

Dreams

Probably the most famous dream recorded of all time was that which concerns Joseph, he of the technicoloured dream coat fame.  Yes, as you probably know it is mentioned in the first book of the Bible in Genesis.

We all have dreams and wonder what they can possibly mean. I have kept a diary of important dreams for the last thirty years – what interesting reading it makes!

If you decide to do the same it is important to write down your memories as soon as you awake. My god- mother who was a cook in a large country estate, received recipes during her slumbers. It was she who inspired me to keep a dream book.

John Bunyan in Pilgrim’s Progress says “ Our heart oft times wakes when we sleep and God can speak to that, either in words, by proverbs, by signs and similitudes, as well as if one was awake”

Visions

Probably, the most famous visions in the last ninety years were those of the three children at Fatima, a place in Portugal during 1917. The Virgin Mary appeared on a hill and she gave them prophesies of two world wars and promised a miracle on the sixth day. At noon the Sun broke through the clouds. Three times the solar disc spun in the sky and plunged downwards but then gradually resumed its place in the heavens. Even sceptics at the time had to agree that something had interfered with cosmic law.

However, the visions  with the most far-reaching effect were of course those of Marie-Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes in France within the caves of Masabielle in 1858. The Virgin Mary appeared and told her to scoop up the water and drink it. As we all know, sick people from all over the world flock to Lourdes and sometimes-remarkable cures happen.

Some very ordinary people have had visions which have saved their lives and some have experienced visions which give them great spiritual understanding. You will read of such a happening to a personal friend of mine in France a few years ago.

Angels

It does seem incredible that in America, as long ago as 1995 a Gallop Poll recorded that 72% of the population believed in angels. It is quite likely that fourteen years on the percentage may be more.

As you know, I love to record other people’s stories particularly if they are known personally to me. I am pleased to be able to tell you that two of my friends have had such a wonderful experience. I am sure you will enjoy reading about them.

Fairies

We have a saying for someone who is not quite with us, “Oh, she’s away with the fairies.”

This phrase is used in a derogatory way and meaning that person is behaving in a silly manner.

Little wonder then, that the miniscule number of people blessed with the ability to see fairies, keep the fact of the matter to themselves.

There are one or two examples for you to enjoy and I will also tell you, that I have a male acquaintance in Holland who does not see fairies with wings but does see points of light flitting about between the flowers.

Healing

What a vast subject!

From the skill of dedicated doctors and nurses to the healing hands of spiritual healers – yes, there is no question that natural healing powers are a gift from God. There are many stories for you to enjoy in this section. Animals benefit greatly if treated by healers and recently I met two women dedicated to this work. They were telling me that horses in particular are very receptive to their ministrations.

Auras

Animals, trees and human beings all have auras. A fully-grown healthy adult has an aura of about six to eight inches or more. Until I was about forty-five years old I did not believe there were such things. A friend with whom I worked tried to enlighten me by telling me that she could feel other people’s auras. This I did not believe, until one day I was standing directly behind her desk and a colleague who was leaving stood at the bottom of the office looking very sad because it was his last day. I too, suddenly felt sad and at that very moment my friend swivelled   round in her chair and very crossly said, “Get away from me you, you went all sad then didn’t you?” Obviously, I had learnt a very valuable lesson.

Psychics all over the world have for centuries been able to see auras but it was not until the 1950’s in the West that we heard of Dr Semyon.Kirlian a Russian engineer who had, in 1939 accidentally photographed the human aura. These days we are able to attend psychic fairs where it is possible to have a picture taken of our auras. Here is the photograph of mine taken about two years ago.

Astral Travel

I have been amazed to find that one or two people I know have astral travelled.

This phenomenon as you are probably aware, involves the etheric body separating form the physical body during sleep. The etheric body, like the physical body is an actual body made up of material, which vibrates at a much faster frequency than physical matter. When I was giving my talks, one woman in the audience told me that her husband astral travels regularly and thinks it is normal and presumes that everyone else does the same!

Near Death Experiences

Near death experiences are very common, I would not be surprised if you had not heard of such a happening from one of your colleagues, friends or relatives.

Spiritualism

As we all know, there is a very small percentage indeed of fraud in many areas of life.

Recently we have had the scandal of banking and insurance fraud. There have been a few cases of some people posing as doctors and even undertaking operations without qualifications. I am therefore not discounting the fact that there have been one or two fraudulent mediums.

As a result, quite unjustly, mediums and spiritualists generally have a very raw deal and are often regarded with suspicion. As you will see from the evidence I have been able to collect, many genuine mediums have suffered greatly by this attitude.

Psychic ability is just one of the Gifts of the Spirit with which some people have been endowed.

The understanding that spiritualists have of life after death is very comforting for them. Consequently, they are much better able to deal with bereavement than most people, because they are aware that death is a continuation of life itself.

World thinking on life after death

Some people have spent a lifetime in the study of religious beliefs but I have only scratched the surface of this enormous subject.

My main concern is to bring your attention to the Cathars who lived in the Languedoc area of France in the 12th Century and the following three hundred years. The terrible consequences of religious persecution at the time live on to this day and age, in the form of people suffering illnesses and phobias. Even a few of us have the marks to prove it, as you can see in the photograph of the knife mark on my chest.

In conclusion

It has taken 50 years of study, twelve years of writing and three years of extremely hard work to get this book published.

Maybe, as a result I am, at this very late stage in my life, entitled to call myself an author. However in all honesty, it would be preferable if you were to think of me as an investigative journalist. The facts of my findings are put before you in order that you can make your own assessment of the information now available.

What you make of it all is entirely up to you. Whatever your conclusions, I hope you will enjoy the book. A friend of mine describes it as, “A good read.”

Acknowledgements with grateful thanks

To my husband Cyril for his stoicism in coming to terms with spending years of loneliness as a result of my retreating to the office to study and consequently not having the pleasure of my company. This is particularly commendable, since his Aries qualities dictate that for his happiness he really needs to be the centre of my attention. Unless you are an astrologer this will sound a very odd statement to you at the moment but all will be revealed later in the section on Astrology.

To my son Philip, without whom the workings of the computer would be a complete and utter mystery to me; his patience in this regard has been remarkable. He has put in many hours of hard work in the production of this book and it is thanks to him that it is being published.

To my dearest friend Karen Taylor who is a font of knowledge on astrological matters and in particular with regard to the current happenings in the astrological world.

To all my friends and acquaintances who have been prepared to share their most intimate personal stories in the interest of helping us all to understand the incredible workings of the universe.

To my friend FatherLeo Booth for his encouragement and advice on the writing of books.

To my friend Isobel Parker, BA. for her contribution of proof reading.
